What Is Social Security Disability?

Social Security disability provides assistance to those who cannot work because of the effects of a severe medical condition. If you cannot perform what the Social Security Administration considers to be substantial gainful activity (SGA), and your impairment will last for 12 months or longer, you may qualify. Disability benefits come in the form of a monthly payment, sometimes with additional benefits for your spouse and children and assistance through programs like Medicare or Medicaid. Attorney Jonathan Pearson can help you determine whether you qualify for Social Security disability benefits and represent you throughout the process of applying.

Social Security Disability Benefit Types

Social Security disability benefits are provided through two different programs. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is available if you are under 65 and you have contributed sufficiently to Social Security throughout your work history prior to your disability. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is available regardless of your past contributions to Social Security if you have severely limited financial resources and income. Jonathan will help you decide whether to apply for SSDI, SSI, or both.

Applying for Social Security Disability

To receive Social Security disability benefits, you must submit an application to the Social Security Administration that includes important details about your condition, employment history, and financial means. Jonathan will help you complete the application to the best of your ability and ensure that you have quality evidence to support it from your medical records and treatment providers. After submitting your application, it will go through an initial review process that may last several months. If your application is denied, as happens in many cases, Jonathan will help you request an appeal and prepare to present your case to a judge. He charges no fees throughout this process and only collects payment if you are granted benefits.

The Application Process

Jonathan will advise and represent you from the time you submit your application until you receive a final decision.

How to Apply

Jonathan can help you apply online through the SSA website, over the phone, or at an in-person appointment.

Permanent Disability

Jonathan can help with your continuing disability review (CDR) so that your benefits continue throughout your impairment.
